[lkb] memory allocation problems with erg

I'm trying to load the 2/8/06 ERG with the 2/8/06 LKB on windows, and
get the following message:

read-preprocessor(): reading file `ecommerce.fsr'.

Memory allocation problem: An allocation request for 262160 bytes
caused a need for 56623104 more bytes of heap. The operating system
will not make the space available because the address space reserved
for the heap could not be increased.

Does this just mean something on my computer is mis-set? (and if so,
what?) Or is something else going on?

I've been able to load a number of other grammars without problems, so
I think the installation is generally OK.

how much memory do you have on your computer? it's a few months since I last
tried to run the ERG on a 500Meg machine and it was only just possible then.

The computer I'm using has 256 MB of actual memory, though I'd thought
that windows' virtual memory system would compensate for that. From
playing around with the swap file settings, though, it does seem like
physical memory is a limiting factor for some reason...

someone else may be able to explain exactly why virtual memory doesn't
help, but it never has with Allegro CL in my experience. If you'd had
a 512MB machine, then I could have suggested ways to cut down the size
of the loaded ERG, but I don't think it's viable to cut it down to fit
into 256MB
